La astronauta, Sara García, presented awards for the XII Scientific-Literary Contest of the University of La Rioja, based on this edition on the novel Orbital by Samantha Harvey, at the Santos Ochoa bookstore in Logroño.
In this edition, Rubén Leal Labrador, a 3rd ESO student from the IES ‘Conde de Orgaz’ in Madrid, is the winner of the XII Scientific-Literary Contest of the University of La Rioja with his story The Last Soviet Citizen.
In second place is Arturo Yebra Ripa, from 4th ESO at the Centro Público Integrado ‘Rosales del Canal’ in Zaragoza; and, in third place, Lara Ortiz de Landaluce Delgado, from 4th ESO at the IES Manuel de Falla in Coslada (Madrid).
Directed at students of Middle Education throughout Spain, the XII Scientific-Literary Contest of the University of La Rioja is endowed with three prizes of 400, 300, and 200 euros, respectively.
The jury is composed, in the scientific part, of Elena Andrade (Nursing), Gadea Mata (Mathematics and Computation), and Carmen Bretón (Chemistry); who, together with Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón (Mathematics and Computation) and Héctor Busto (Chemistry), organize the contest.
The literary jury is made up of researchers Lorena Pérez (Modern Philologies), Eduardo Sáenz de Cabezón (Mathematics and Computation), as well as Rubén Marín Abeytua, (Institutional Relations and Communication Service-Unit of Scientific Culture).
In recent editions, the contest has had participants from La Rioja and other regions, which consolidates the contest as a national reference within activities that combine science and humanities as a single culture.
The XII Scientific Literary Contest is organized in collaboration with the School of Master and Doctorate, the International Foundation UNIVERSITAS XXI, Principia Magazine, the Santos Ochoa bookstore, the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry and the Anagrama editorial.
Additionally, it is supported by the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC+i) of the UR and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.
