Actividades del Ayuntamiento de Logroño por la Semana de la Familia

The City Council of Logroño has prepared a program of activities around the International Day of Families, which is commemorated on May 15. The Families Week will feature different musical proposals, workshops on positive parenting and psychological support for teenagers, initiatives in municipal toy libraries, proposals in the health field, or community activities, among others.

The Councilor for Family Policies, Social Services, and Disability, Patricia Sainz, presented this morning the program of activities for the Families Week 2025, accompanied by the general director of the Family area, Jesús Esteban, and the deputy director of the Municipal School of Music, Gabriela Eibar.

«The International Day of Families is celebrated on May 15 of each year to raise awareness of the fundamental role of families in our society, especially in the field of education and the upbringing of children from childhood, as well as their role as an irreplaceable support network for people throughout their lives,» Sainz explained.

And she added that «from the City Council of Logroño, we want to continue to value this essential role of families, and for that, we have organized a very comprehensive program, with proposals for all ages that combine the most formative aspects or promotion of health and well-being with those more playful initiatives to enjoy as a family.»

MUSIC.

Thus, the activities will begin on Saturday, May 10, with the Meeting of Children’s and Youth Choirs of La Rioja 2025. It will take place from 6:00 p.m. at the church of Valvanera (c/ Vitoria, 29) and is an initiative that seeks to promote this hobby in children and young people, developing their creativity and expressing their emotions, as well as developing social skills and occupying free time in an enriching activity. Admission will be free until full capacity is reached (doors open at 5:40 p.m.).

Organized by the Youth Association En_Kanto Vocal, with the collaboration of the City Council of Logroño, the IRJ, Alcampo Rioja, and the parish of Valvanera, this activity will involve around 180 children and young people from the following groups: Coro La Guindalera de Logroño, Corito La Enseñanza de Logroño, Coro del Conservatorio Lucrecia Arana de Haro, and Coro En_Kanto Vocal de Logroño.

The next highlighted musical event will be on May 16 at 7:30 p.m. outside La Gota de Leche and will be led by the Municipal School of Music.

It is a ‘family’ recital, as it will involve students of different specialties who are family members, such as parents with children, cousins, grandparents with grandchildren, etc.

In addition to the endearing nature of the event, the aim is to strengthen the family bond among the performers, as well as mutual motivation and collaborative learning. There will be performances of piano duets, flute and piano, flute and electric guitar, piano and saxophone, clarinet duets, etc.

And the final musical proposal to close the Families Week 2025 will be on May 17 starting at 7:00 p.m. at Parque Gallarza. This will feature a musical performance for the whole family.

ACTIVITIES IN MUNICIPAL TOY LIBRARIES.

Municipal toy libraries are joining in this Families Week with various activities that will take place on May 15 and aim to strengthen the bonds between children and their families through play.

One of the activities will involve creating a ‘time capsule’ with personal objects, photographs of their parents, grandparents, and other family members, explaining to their playmates in the toy library what these objects and memories mean.

Another initiative will be a family game session, where the expression of emotions and affection will be sought. Additionally, the toy libraries will participate in the Community Activities Showcase.

POSITIVE PARENTING AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SUPPORT WORKSHOPS

Various workshops have been organized within the framework of this Families Week through programs developed in the field of Social Services.

On May 13 at 6:30 p.m. at La Gota de Leche, the positive parenting support workshop ‘What do I do when what I do doesn’t work’ will take place.

On May 15 at 8:00 p.m. at Avenida de España, 9, the project ‘Being a man today’ proposes the activity ‘FAMILY, a TEAM among all’.

Finally, the Social Services Center in the Old Town will host the municipal psychological support workshop for adolescents aged 14 to 18, with guidance for parents.

The format consists of group sessions; on one hand, six sessions (Tuesdays from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.) for adolescents aged 14 to 18, and on the other hand, three sessions for parents to guide and improve family relationships.

This offers a professional and safe space for young people to share, express, and learn about the biopsychosocial functioning of the age they are going through, discover how this influences the relationships they experience inside and outside their home.

Parents, in turn, will learn to enhance positive interactions with their children, from understanding and empathy, in order to meet the physical-biological, cognitive, emotional, and affective needs in a vital stage as relevant as adolescence.

Registrations are done through Service 010, the Social Services phone 941 277070, or email: sociales@logrono.es

Another area participating in the Family Week with different initiatives is the Health sector.

Thus, on May 12, information will be provided on the ‘Family and Health’ and ‘Better without Alcohol’ programs in the Logroño Health municipal booth set up at the City Council at 10:00 a.m. In this regard, the ‘Minors without Alcohol’ prevention guide has also been edited, with different guidelines to address this issue as a family.

This guide aims to offer clear ideas, strategies, and resources to help families in this task at different stages with our children: from childhood, in adolescence, if they try alcohol, or if they have drunk.

Copies are available at the Logroño City Council in Social Services, at La Gota de Leche, and other municipal centers. It can also be consulted and downloaded at www.logrosaludable.es
