CERMI La Rioja apoya la reunión de la Comisión de Discapacidad de la FEMP en Logroño

Logroño will host the CERMI Rural convention

The Committee of Entities Representing People with Disabilities of La Rioja (CERMILa Rioja) celebrates Logroño being the venue for today’s working session of the Comprehensive Disability Policies Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), a strategic body that promotes real inclusion at the local level.

The president of CERMI-La Rioja, Manoli Muro, reviewed the joint work with the Logroño City Council regarding the drafting, execution, and evaluation of various comprehensive plans for people with disabilities since 1995, as well as the establishment of the Municipal Disability Council.

On the other hand, the Secretary General, Javier Muñoz, announced the celebration of the CERMI Rural Convention in Logroño, where they aim to analyze the work carried out by both the public sector and associative organizations for the benefit of people with disabilities in the municipalities of the Autonomous Community.

This Convention will take place in Logroño with the support of CERMI Estatal, the Regional Government, and the City Council of the capital of La Rioja.

The choice of our city as a meeting place is in response to the positive assessment by FEMP and CERMI of inclusive initiatives already established in the municipality, such as the transformation of the Picos de Urbión playground.

This recognition demonstrates the commitment of the Logroño City Council to designing spaces for everyone, without barriers, from a universal perspective.

CERMI La Rioja sees this meeting as a unique opportunity to continue highlighting the transformative impact of inclusive policies and to advocate for the key role of local governments in building a more equitable, participatory, and barrier-free society.

During the opening of the session, Logroño Mayor Conrado Escobar emphasized the key role of the Municipal Disability Council, of which CERMI La Rioja is a part, as a cross-cutting working space involving all municipal areas to break down physical, sensory, and cognitive barriers.

Among the actions already implemented, the mayor listed the adaptation of inclusive playgrounds, the creation of the accessible tourist guide ‘Easy Visit Logroño’, an inclusive sports program, and socio-labor orientation services for vulnerable individuals.

He also highlighted progress in the accessibility of cultural events, improvements in public transportation, and the inclusion of a section in easy-to-read format in the municipal newspaper De Buena Fuente.

On his part, the President of the Commission, David Gago, praised the willingness of this new FEMP structure to «discuss comprehensive policies, make agreements, and learn from successful experiences,» pointing to Logroño as an example of «good practices sustained over time, both in the public and private spheres.»
